Chiropractic Care
during Pregnancy
We are proud to serve as the premier prenatal and pediatric practice in Forsyth County for over 12 years.
Dr. Marchman is one of very few doctors in the area who is certified in the Webster Technique and she loves serving the pregnant moms and children of her community.
The female body is amazing. It goes through many changes during pregnancy in an effort to create an ideal environment for the precious baby that is developing and growing. Chiropractic care helps to keep everything in proper alignment (paying special attention to the pelvis, hips, and sacrum) during these changes to keep both mom and baby as healthy and comfortable as possible. The American Pregnancy Association states the following as benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy: maintaining a healthier pregnancy, controlling symptoms of nausea, reducing the time of labor and delivery, relieving back, neck or joint pain, and preventing a potential cesarean delivery. In addition, because the nervous system is the master communication network to all the other systems in the body, including the reproductive system, keeping the spine aligned helps the entire body to function at an optimal level. We believe pregnancy is a time that should be treasured, and we are here to help you be able to enjoy it.
The International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) recommends that women receive chiropractic care throughout pregnancy to establish pelvic balance and optimize the room a baby has for development throughout pregnancy. With a balanced pelvis, babies have a greater chance of moving into the correct position for birth, and the crisis and worry associated with breech and posterior presentations may be avoided altogether. Optimal baby positioning at the time of birth also eliminates the potential for dystocia (difficult labor) and therefore results in easier and safer deliveries for both the mom and baby.
During a prenatal massage, the patient will be side-lying with pillows to support the belly, head, knees, and ankles. All of our massage therapists have taken extra courses to become certified in prenatal and postnatal massage. They have knowledge of which areas are likely to need extra care, as well as which areas should be avoided during pregnancy.
